Project Spark, we visited Vista Square Elementary School and were paired up with 3rd grade buddies. Here we would be mentoring them and having fun while teaching them a couple things. The kids didn't have the same classes as we do in High Tech, they didn't have such hands on experiences so we wanted to have them participate in those kind of activities. We mentored them because it shown mentors can lead kids to a better path. We created art for them and helped them read and create poems.
When we first were paired up with our buddies they were incredibly shy, we tried to have them warm up to us by asking them questions about themselves so we could get to know them. After a couple field trips to the school and hanging out with our buddies we were able to talk more casually and asked them about their passions and what they wanted to do when they grew up. With this information we helped them write Bio poems about themselves it was mainly them writing their lines and us just helping with grammatical errors. We created pieces of art as well with inspirational phrases to get them pumped.
I really enjoyed hanging out with my buddies they were extremely kind and fun to hang around, this project was very fun to mentor the kids and really feel like we were helping these kids with their futures. My favorite part of the project was helping the kids with writing their poems. IT was so fun just getting to know them and finding out their interest. Seeing how their poems came our was cute too, they were so passionate! If I could revise something it would be my Op-Ed since I used some phrases like "in my opinion" which isn't a strong statement to use.
