In this project we created our own radio stories based on Mars. It could be about aliens, going to mars, anything you wanted as long as it was about Mars. We started our with writing basic plots on sticky notes and going into our groups to decide the main idea. We had various groups of 4 with different stories. One we had a plot we would get more into detail by creating everything scene by scene, and writing our script. Since we were recording it we were given examples by Ms. Kandy of a story on Sound Cloud. WE learned how to use a software called Audacity from the people at Radio Pulso. Audacity is a software where we could trim and put together our clips, as well as inserting sound effects. We went through Various recordings till finally we recorded at Radio Pulso and presented our stories there.
I think I learned a lot about writing stories and such. Like whats relevant towards making a story accurate and believable. I also learned about recording and how to make the sound good. My team had trouble with this at first, But got the hang of it after a few times and receiving help from the people at Radio Pulso. When writing a story its also important to make sure each scene flows together. You don't want transitions to be choppy. As well as keeping characters consistent if a certain character acts a certain way keep that going, unless there's some sort of character development scene.
Here's My Mars Story:
Mars weekly helped inform me on the progress we're making towards going to Mars. IT had many articles that told you updates such as items NASA was sending up to Mars to make it a habitable zone. Learning about certain conditions Mars would need to meet to make it similar to Earth, for example there is a lot of radiation since Mars is much closer to the sun than we are. What we would want to do is produce some green house gases to thicken up the atmosphere to protect us. I also learned about Mars past like how it could have had water before and looking at marks on the ground, My favorite Mars weekly was about how in Hawaii in the Space Exploration Analog and Simulation “tasked six researchers with spending a 366-day stint in a 111-square-metre dome 2500 metres up the slopes of an active volcano, Mauna Loa.” They were able to leave their hab to explore as long as they wore their space suits. Their communications had a 20 minute delay just as it would be in Mars. They experimented and grew crops such as radishes, kale, and lentils. They also ate food they made themselves like yogurt and cheese. It was interesting because if I were to put myself in that situation I know I wouldn't be able to stand being in there for long. Because if it is a very accurate simulation type of place then I wouldn't have any activities to do. Also being in that suit for too long would make me freak out.
I really enjoyed the Mars project a lot if were to change anything i think I would just want to start recording earlier since it we did record a little later than I preferred. And by recording that a little later it took us a very long time to edit the recording which was incredibly stressing. Since Festival Del Sol was upcoming we were freaking out trying to get it done. I just wish we had better time management.
