My interview with my mentor Daniela Kelly was very insightful, not only towards understanding her beyond a mentor, but as well understanding the actual steps it takes to follow a career path With Daniela she speaks of her experience of getting into the arts and already knowing since high school that was the path she wanted to pursue. " I've always been interested in the arts.I was not- I'm not an artist per say myself... But I always wanted to be in- involved in the arts and in a supportive way." With confidence in her career choice, she continued to get her masters in arts history at UCSD. From then on she left her work once she saw that the Athenaeum was coming to Barrio Logan. Seeing this through a newspaper article she proceeded to reach out to them, send her resume, go through several rounds of interviews, and was hired!
What I found in the interview that really gave me some insight towards how I want my future career to look like, as well gave me a push toward finding the career I want to follow, was her words when asked about what makes my mentor come to work everyday. "What makes me come to work. I mean I come to work happily. I feel very- I enjoy what I do. I feel that I have a job that's rewarding...I just feel very kind of privileged to have a job where I can meet people, I can enjoy what I'm doing, and feel that I alsohave fun" My largest takeaway from this interview has definitely been this quote. Just knowing I'm work with someone who genuinely enjoys their job and coming in everyday is very comforting and nice to see. Its something I aspire when I picture my work mindset.
