In class we read the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding for our final project. The allegory is about boys who get stranded on island and now how to form their own tribe to survive on the island and get rescued. Through out the book there are various themes being presented, most dominantly governments. Totalitarianism and Democracy, we wrote an essay on the book comparing the boys and how they represented the two forms of government. We were then later assigned a government to create a presentation on. We had 60 minutes to talk about the government, make connections, perform a skit, and play a game related to the government. We talked about a Utopian and Dystopain societies. A Utopian society would be peaceful full of a perfect balance were everyone could be happy; paradise. A Dystopian society would be no rules no balance complete free and disorder; utter chaos.
I learned more about writing such as grammatical errors and information required to create an impacting essay. Such as paraphrasing evidence then presenting the evidence. This helps set the tone for what you want to prove, as well as following it along with an interpretation of the evidence. We learned a lot of grammar rules to help improve our essays. One rule was to not use the different tenses in the same sentence. This would only cause confusion to the reader. It's also best not to refer to yourself in the essay. As in not using any "I think.." or " I myself prefer..".
I am most proud of my essay, I enjoy writing them along with research papers. I just love to get my point across to my readers, and I think its one of my strong points in writing. I also love critiquing papers and receiving critique on my own. I think I made some great connections in my essay and provided a lot of evidence with strong arguments. I would definitely want to revise my essay title, titles are always something I have a problem with. I can't usually think of something very creative and when I do its usually already taken.
